This month we are going to be studying the work of Andre Derain (1880-1954), a French Fauvist. Known for his unnatural colors, Derain was once a controversial artist. So controversial, in fact, that he was kicked out of the Louvre for practice-copying other artists’ work in his own style. I wonder what young Derain would think while walking out of the museum if he could know that he now has paintings hanging on their wall.
